AAre
YOU going to be one of the MAGIC 8 to enroll in our next class? |

MYTH:
I’m too busy to take an EMT class and be on call for the ambulance.
FACT:
Busy people get things done. People make time for the things they really
want to do. Our EMTs are among the busiest in the community. |
MYTH:
I want to help but right now my kids are too little/too involved.
FACT:
Having young kids or busy kids, you learn how to work with schedules and
prioritize your time. That’s the type of person we want on our Service.
|
|
MYTH:
If I am an EMT, I am
always
on call.
FACT:
We do a schedule every two weeks, and you give the director your
available times. No one is forced to take any certain number of hours.
Just cover the shifts you're scheduled for.
|
MYTH:
I wouldn’t be much help. I could only be on call one shift each week.
FACT:
Every shift counts! We appreciate any time you can give. We have a need
for daytime week-days, weekends, and week nights. We need YOU. |
|
MYTH: I don't want to be on call because the pager will go off every night while I'm trying to sleep. FACT: It's true, sometimes we miss out on some sleep. Lenox Ambulance answers about 240 calls per year. You do the math - the chances are greater that you don't get awakened in the night. Just think, though, if you were the one injured or ill - wouldn't you want someone to be willing to help, no matter what time it is? |
MYTH: I don't have time for all of the extra activities that come along with the ambulance service, like fundraising. FACT: We generally only have one fundraiser each year, and try to pick something that requires a minimum amount of time, and can be accomplished by teamwork. In addition to our monthly meetings, we do public education at the school in May, and a couple of other events a year, but no one is expected to take off work to participate. We are partners in the community. |
Will
you be one of the MAGIC 8 ? If so, you'll be wearing a t-shirt with this design! All students who enroll in the next EMT class and plan to join the Lenox Ambulance Service will get a shirt with this design. |
